This module offers a foundation in educational theories that help to explain how learning takes place, and can be nurtured, in health professions education settings.
Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Consider and critique a range of learning theories and approaches & to set them in their historical contexts.
- Describe the main theories of learning and explain their effect on the planning and implementation of educational programs.
- Give an outline of the principles of adult learning and their effects on the planning and implementation of learning activities.
- Explain the terms learning situations and learning strategies and the difference between them.
- Describe the various learning situations and their advantages and disadvantages.
- Describe the various learning strategies and their effects on the planning and implementation of learning activities.
